Can open links in windows live mail
I still have this problem and now it is starting to affect the browsers functionality and useability. When Firefox is my default browser any link outside of Firefox like in my e-mail won't open which is becoming a nuisance.
I am running Windows 7 which may be the cause of the problem via a setting but I can't locate the needle in the haystack or it may have happened at a Firefox update. Firefox has been my favorite and only browser since Netscape 1. This site is an official Mozilla Mirror, and has the GpG signature file in the folder with the executable. Do you start up to the Profile Manager and choose a profile manually?
Shortcuts and external links generally do not work in that scenario unless something has changed recently. No I don't get an error dialog but When I click on the link the border ot the e-mail highlites for just a second. I'm not familiar with the profile manager or quite understand your question but when I start Firefox I just double click the desktop icon. Does it make a difference whether Firefox is currently running i.
You can try to redo the default browser and temporarily make another browser like IE the default browser. No, I have tried those those things and it doesn't matter whether Firefox is open or not links still will not open Firefox when it is my default browser. Actually IE is my default browser at the moment so I can open links in e-mails, etc. In the center pane, double-click the Default entry, then remove whatever value is there it'll probably be a weird string of numbers and commas. I want to thank you all for your responses and help with my problem.
I have found the answer mostly by accident, I might add. It has to do with protocols in Windows 7, something different from XP. In order to open links in e-mails, etc. This is accomplished by going to "Control Panel", select "Programs", select "Default Programs" and select "Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program".
You may also change the default programs for the other protocols also if you want. I hope this puts this issue to bed for good. Thanks again, koehlerle. Thanks for posting that. Firefox is supposed to take care of that for you when you make it the default browser, so I'm sorry to hear it didn't work for you. Perhaps it's a permission-related problem? I have the latest version of Firefox and use Windows 7 64 bit. I have tried every solution suggested on this page, and none of them has worked.
I have very reluctantly abandoned Firefox after many years of use. Hi dokeckip, I also use Win7x I am able to launch links from Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Reader, and various other programs in Firefox 13 -- it can be achieved! When you click on a web link in a mail message, it's Windows - not the Mail app - that is supposed to invoke the default browser and ask it to open the URL. If this isn't happening, there's probably a problem with your default program settings.
Restart the computer, then try a hyperlink in a mail message again. Repeat the process to change back to your preferred default browser. If this doesn't make any difference, it sounds like there's something wrong with your file associations. The problem started on Jan 23, but it went away as mysteriously as it started.
Both Live mail and Windows 10 mail appear to be working as they should. I cannot explain it. I have not rebooted the machine since yesterday. I have been trying every suggestion so something must hit the mark.
I searched from the Corona search field for "choose default apps by protocol". Windows 10 mail will not open hyperlinks embedded in the email. Am running Windows 10 on a POC. Had to run System File Checker and. Neither one found any errors or made any changes but after they ran the links in the mail would not longer work.
Any ideas' on how to unwind this? This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. I have the same question Report abuse. On the Outlook File tab, click the Options button. Click OK. HI, I am having a problem with the following version of Windows and Outlook. Hello, none of these fixes is working for me. For more information please contact your help desk. See Post above from Ron K on March 31, I was going insane trying to fix my link problem in Outlook after the last Windows 10 update on March 10, , but this took care of the problem.
Thanks Benf and Ron. Thank you, thank you!!! March 27, Reseting the browser and going back to the favorite one worked! Running Win 10 Version OS build Tried these steps: As has been suggested on several help sites, switched my default Win 10 browser to Edge and closed everything down including Chrome. Went back into Chrome and reset Chrome to my browser default which btw in Chrome now just brings up the Win 10 Set Default Apps and Files window and made sure my Win 10 installation is set to Chrome.
I rarely use that feature but I just checked an email from a magazine newsletter in Outlook and got a similar response, except for me it opened in Internet Explorer!
After hours trolling through forums on this and getting no joy, I used the instructions above to add registry entries credited to Benf on tenforums. Thanks guys! Glad to hear this worked for you. I know from personal experience what a pain Outlook can be.
My Outlook installation has been stable for some time now following these instructions, thankfully. In that it was trying to re-open Firefox and gave the error it was already running and should be closed. Closing it then clicking on the link worked but was not an optimal solution especially if I already had other tabs open. The solution here worked perfectly. Change default browser to Edge, click on link so it opens in Edge, close edge, change default browser back to Firefox.
Now when I click on links in Outlook they open as new tabs within my running Firefox. Your solution was perfect for this aggravating problem. Thank you. I have a brand new seven day old HP laptop and I cannot solve this problem.
I unticked and reticked with a reboot — no effect. This is a big problem, since I receive emails I need to respond to and login pages for different sites that are sent to me by my employer on an hourly basis. I need links in the Microsoft Outlook email client to work with the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system. On a brand new laptop I have an expectation that Microsoft programs might co-operate with each other, but since I have now spent in excess of twenty FULL hours trying to solve this most basic of basic problems I am of the opinion that this problem is unresolveable which is why Microsoft cannot fix it with an update.
Not one thing I have done has made the slightest difference. Please contact your system administrator. Same here: tried every suggested fix like the list from Paul. Seems already to be a problem since Windows 7 and Outlook I use Win10 and Outlook, Where is the final solution? Can we just kill Microsoft like it is killing all our productive hours finding workarounds to use programs we paid for and which worked great for 12 years before MS got so greedy?
I need email and Word and occasionally Publisher. I have thought about it from time to time. Open Office is no longer the highest rated alternative, though. These days LibreOffice is more popular. Chrome and Thunderbird work together like a charm on my laptop. Gave up on Edge and Mail. Mail took forever to open no matter what I did, Edge was the same and suddenly started to refuse to open html links in emails. U r a Rock Star. The default web browser was chrome. I had her switch it to edge, and it worked, then back to chrome and now all is good in the world.
